Birds of a Feather

This week we drove down to San Antonio from Austin to meet with folks from Rackspace at their corporate castle. We’ve been fans of Rackspace since the beginning of Bitvibe. We have massive storage needs for our marketplace. Rackspace is providing the infrastructure to technically help us make it happen. When you hear people talking about cloud computing, that’s what we’re using.

I’m posting about Rackspace for two reasons. The first reason is the technical stuff. They’re doing fantastic technical work. We’re proud to be working with an innovative technology company like them. We can’t say what we’re working on exactly, but it’s huge for us.

The second reason is the business of Rackspace. They started as a local San Antonio ISP providing people with internet service. Hundreds if not a thousands of companies were providing this type of service around the world. Most are no longer in business while Rackspace is thriving. I took the photo of the understated Rackspace sign at the top of this post. This sign is outside of ONE MILLION square feet of office space in San Antonio. Rackspace has nine (9) Data Centers: San Antonio, TX (2); Dallas, TX; Herndon, VA; Ashburn, VA; London, UK (2); Slough, UK; Hong Kong. They also have offices in many other cities including Austin. As of Feb 26, they had a market value of over $2.4 billion. Amazing!

Their technology is certainly core to their business, but their trademarked, “Fanatical Support” is setting them apart. The “Rackers” believe in their fanatical support. It’s not just words.

I find it invigorating to meet great companies. We’re thrilled to have Rackspace partnered with Bitvibe. We aspire to be like Rackspace.
